We bike, we fundraise, and we barbecue. This is all in efforts to move the research on MS forward.
We participated in the Bike MS ourselves and realized that we wanted to help more people living with MS cross the finish line of that ride. We wanted to ride WITH people living with MS, not just FOR them.
We started to ask ourselves, “How could we get more people living with MS out here, tackling this challenge?” We know exercise helps, but we also know cycling equipment is extremely cost prohibitive for lots of people. Particularly people who are having to pay for disease-modifying therapies and the like.
We decided we’d be the bridge. We would start our own program that would break down that equipment barrier. And that’s when we started giving bikes.
Cut to today, and this program is national, and Meat Fight just gave away our 318th bike.
The people of Dallas seem to think so. And, sine we’re boasting, we did just bring home the gold –– we won Best Charity Event in The Dallas Morning News’ 2021 “Best in DFW” People’s Choice and, woo-wee, we had some stiff competition, too. But what they say must be true: the people love hot dog costumes and whiskey.
Meat Fight, Inc. is so for real. But you may have noticed we take a slightly different approach than some other charities. That’s because we center ourselves on what our founder Alice Laussade calls “funlanthropy”. But we are a vetted 501c3 nonprofit. And we’ve got some very real beef with MS.
We want people to know that every time they come to a Meat Fight event, they’re going to have an amazing time. They’re going to be surprised by something. They’re going to laugh at a lot of things. And they’re going to eat and drink a spectacular amount.
We will never host a luncheon.
We will always host great parties that benefit a cause. Funlanthropy is about having a great time while we raise funds for a cause.
Funds we raise through Meat Fights, auctions, and otherwise, help our mission to support people with multiple sclerosis with endurance training equipment. Meat Fight covers coaching for Ironman events, marathons, and bike equipment to take on long-distance bike rides like Bike MS. Funds also benefit our MS research endowment with UT Southwestern and the National MS Society.
Meat Fight is possible thanks to our incredible volunteers, BBQ geniuses, staff for their tireless efforts and planning. But, of course, we can’t do that without everyone who donates, who bikes, who give us their time and energy, and who shares on social media.
